Cornerstone Civil Engineering: A Prepared Partner

How do you plan your daily schedule? When Monday arrives, are you scrambling to jump back into the rhythm of the work week, or are you ready to tackle the tasks at hand? Most of us have experienced chaotic Mondays, where it seems that issues jump out from every corner and we’re left feeling unprepared or scattered. On the contrary, maybe you spent a little time last Friday afternoon preparing for the week ahead, noting upcoming tasks, meetings, or goals to work toward. If so, you arrived ready to hurdle obstacles and be a productive member of your team.

In the same way, a civil engineer can be a key player in planning and executing a new build or reconstruction project. There is always an end goal in mind, but having someone who can foresee obstacles and help tackle unexpected problems that arise is a major component in keeping tasks on schedule.

Pre-Design and Pre-Construction

At Cornerstone Civil Engineering, we see things from the ground up (and sometimes even underground). We are involved from very early stages in planning.

Stages of Planning:

  1. We begin with a preliminary site assessment and a feasibility study, in which we gather public data that may be relevant to the success of the project, such as information on floodplain restrictions and current site zoning information.

  2. From there, we consider not just what can be evaluated on the surface, but also what is happening underneath. We’ll make note of any issues that could cause problems in the future, with aspects such as proper drainage or utility connections. We also consider the wider scope of the site and how it affects or may be affected by area roadways or nearby builds.

  3. Once these elements have been evaluated, Cornerstone can assist in obtaining proper jurisdictional approvals and construction permits. We’re a small part of a wider team that can then use the collected information and approvals to safely and efficiently begin a project.

Project Completion

During construction, while the general contractor is managing the team who brings the build to life, Cornerstone is working alongside them to help ensure the project is completed. All of the preparation done in pre-design and pre-construction has paved the way for a smooth road going forward. When unforeseen issues arise, we are there with the data and information to make decisions on how to solve them. We are committed to preparing in every way possible before the project begins to give the construction team the knowledge they need to produce a solid finished product.
